Posta Rangers midfielder Bernard Ondiek has picked former Kenyan international David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng to thank for the superb display he had at the heart of defence against Nairobi City Stars on Saturday. Coach Stanley Okumbi had to turn to Ondiek, a natural midfielder to partner Cheche in central defence following the absence of Kennedy Owino who was serving suspension and Suleiman Ngotho who is injured.Ondiek punched above his weight in the role making several interceptions that went a long way in ensuring that they didn’t fall to Simba wa Nairobi who prior to the game had won three consecutive matches. The former Gor Mahia midfielder says Cheche helped him position himself better on the pitch and instructed him to man mark Ezekiel Odera for the minutes he lasted on the pitch.🎥| One of the best goals from last season.Bernard Ondiek for @posta_rangers against @FcHomeboyz#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/qAH8YYD6u4— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) October 8, 2021 ” I didn’t have difficulties in the game as Cheche made it easier for me. A defensive midfielder can play in central defence so long as he has a partner who understands and reads the game. I had confidence and stuck to the basics as instructed by the coach and Cheche, ” he said.Ondiek further disclosed that he was comfortable in being deployed anywhere on the pitch having played as a centre half in his formative years of his career and as a goalkeeper.” I played in the defence in the youth teams I featured for. I have also played as a goalkeeper before and the coach is free to play me anywhere. I remember I once played in between the sticks at Western Stima when our goalkeeper was sent off at a time when we had exhausted our options, ” he revealed.🎉🎉🎉Help us wish our Mid-field general, Bernard Ondiek a happy birthday, as he turn a year https://t.co/zrG3Th6GoG some love🎉🎉🎉 pic.twitter.com/yXqoYiWINf— Posta Rangers Football Club (@posta_rangers) October 5, 2021 Ondiek in the meantime called on his teammates to rectify the mistakes that have cost them maximum points in their last two matches.Rangers fell 2-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz before holding City Stars to a one all draw, results which barred them from being among the top three teams.
