All sports federations must be audited – Sakaja

Following an uproar from a section of senators who warned of an impending ban from FIFA for government interference on Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has shed more light on statements in Tuesday’s debate.Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei were among the Senators calling for Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed not to interfere in football matters.Sen. @SenMutula seeks a statement from the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the directive by the CS Ministry of Sports to undertake an impromptu inspection on Football Federation of Kenya (FKF)The Committee should: #BungeliveSEN pic.twitter.com/btqX91haIS— Mzalendo (@MzalendoWatch) November 2, 2021 In a since deleted post by Sakaja who is the Chairman of the standing committee on Labour and Social Welfare, clarified the statement presented by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. which was debated by a number of Senators.“Yesterday’s remarks were misinterpreted so let me give a simple clarification. FKF and all federations receiving money must be audited. There is no escaping that,”“If any individual is found culpable of any theft or wrongdoing, the law must follow including prosecution and/or a normalization committee. No one is sacred,”“Before the evidence is put forward, I will not support a lynch mob or pre-empt the results of the audit,”“Let the law be followed. We will listen to all parties objectively and in the ultimate interest of the people,” read a Facebook post from Sakaja.We have a problem in the Ministry of Sports and Management of Sports in this Country, we put little resources in the sports sector – @kipmurkomen #BungeliveSEN pic.twitter.com/QsvaX4fC8x— Mzalendo (@MzalendoWatch) November 2, 2021 Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. sought a statement on the Ministry of Sports decision to conduct an impromptu audit inspection on FKF as he raised a number of concerns with the move. He finished the statement by stating the CS Amina intends to disband FKF based on the alleged inspection which may lead to a ban of football in the country.
