Former Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz assistant head coach Patrick Odhiambo who is the current boss at Tanzanian outfit Biashara United Mara has been handed a blow when it comes to the continental CAF Confederation Cup after his side was eliminated from the competition by the African football governing body. This is because, back on Saturday 23rd October, Biashara United were supposed to travel to Libya to honour the second leg clash between the two sides for a place in the playoffs of the second tier continental tournament but did not do so despite having a 2-0 advantage after the first leg match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania. The management of Biashara United said they had contacted the Confederation of African Football requesting to postpone the match until the next Tuesday after the team was unable to travel to Benghazi due to not obtaining overflight permits over Sudan and South Sudan, but their request was declined due to time constraint. In a ruling that has now been passed to Mr. Wilfred Kidao, General Secretary of the Tanzania Football Federation, CAF has eliminated Biashaa from the competition with Al Ahli Tripoli granted progression to the playoff round where they will face Senegalese side Stade Malien later this month.“Accordingly, the case was submitted to the Organizing Committee for Inter-clubs Competitions and Management of the Club Licensing System who decided that your club’s absence is not as a result of force majeure. Consequently, it was decided that Biashara United is hereby disqualified from the competition in accordance with article 16 of Chapter XI of the regulations governing the competition which stipulate the following:OFFICIAL!CAF has confirmed that Al Ahly Tripoli 🇱🇾 have secured a play-off round berth in the CAF Confederation Cup after Biashara United 🇹🇿 failed to turn up for the 2nd leg of the tie.The Libyan giants face Stade Malien 🇲🇱 in the play-offs later this month. pic.twitter.com/cWiEGluq1O— N U H U ™️ (@NuhuAdams_) November 3, 2021 “If for any reason whatsoever, a team withdraws from the competition or does not report for a match-except in case of force majeure accepted by the Organising Committee- or if it refuses to play or leaves the ground before the regular end of the match without the permission of the referee, it shall be considered loser and shall be eliminated from the competition.”
