Kakamega Homeboyz have confirmed their participation in the Football Kenya Federation Cup after years of giving the competition a wide berth.Homeboyz who have a one hundred percent record in the league having won all their opening four matches have in the past failed to register for Cup but will be among the teams seeking to dethrone Gor Mahia this season.The club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula said the management took the decision to enroll for the competition in which the winner scoops the ticket to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup courtesy of the depth in the squad.The Benard Mwalala coached side was active in the transfer market where they head hunted good players and at the same time parted ways with a handful whom majority were deemed surplus to requirement.pic.twitter.com/ZdLGu9ltwJ— Kakamega Homeboyz FC (@FcHomeboyz) October 31, 2021 Among players who left the club are Bonaventure Atse, Robert Arrot, Kingsley Fosanmi while Allan Wanga called it a day. Shami Kibwana joined Tusker while Stephen Etyang is said to be on his way to Ulinzi Stars.“We have a large unit that will allow us to register for the Cup this season. Enrolling for the competition will also increase our chances of winning our first major title,” he confirmed.Shimanyula also attributed their decision to take part in the Cup to Mwalala’s experience in tournaments. The youthful coach took over the reigns before the start of the season after his boss Nicholas Muyoti moved to Nairobi City Stars.“We have a coach who has a history of doing well in the Cup. His experience will go a long way in our course to win titles this season,” added Shimanyula.
