Brighton and Newcastle have forgotten what it’s like to win a football match! It finishes 1-1 on the south coast

Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United are two Premier League teams that seem utterly incapable of getting a win these days. The Seagulls were pushing for their first win since mid-September, but resilient Newcastle put all their efforts into avoiding defeat – and were looking for a winner in the dying minutes. In the end, the opponents cancelled each other out and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Graham Potter’s men found their breakthrough after 24 minutes from the penalty spot. Leandro Trossard was floored by Ciaran Clark and the spot-kick was awarded after a VAR review, with the Belgian picking himself up to finish past Karl Darlow. With the new manager Eddie Howe watching on sat beside the club directors in the executive box at the AMEX Stadium, Newcastle kept themselves in the game and got an unlikely equaliser against the run of play after the halftime break. Matt Ritchie’s lofted cross was nodded down by Clark into space for Isaac Hayden to volley home. The away fans had seen precious little to cheer but the noise level dramatically increased after a well-worked goal got their side back in the game.0 – Newcastle – the only Premier League side without a victory – are on their longest ever winless run from the beginning of a league campaign. Indeed, each of the last four Premier League sides to endure a similar start to a top-flight season have gone on to be relegated. The stalemate means they’re now winless in their last six Premier League games but remain in the top six, level on points with Manchester United. Newcastle are still searching for their first win of the season and are five points adrift in the relegation zone. Howe will have plenty of work to do to rescue a side level on points with Norwich at the bottom.PREMIER LEAGUE – Round 11FridaySouthampton – Aston Villa 1-0 (1-0)/Armstrong 3/SaturdayMan.Utd – Man.City 0-2 (0-2)/Bailly 7 og, Silva 45/Brentford – Norwich 1-2 (0-2)/Henry 60 – Normann 6, Pukki 29 pen/Chelsea – Burnley 1-1 (0-1)/Havertz 33 – Vydra 80/Crystal Palace – Wolverhampton 2-0 (0-0)/Zaha 61, Gallagher 78/Brighton – Newcastle 1-1 (1-0)/Trossard 24 pen – Hayden 66/Sunday17.00: (1.42) Arsenal (4.80) Watford (8.50)17.00: (3.05) Everton (3.25) Tottenham (2.55)17.00: (2.95) Leeds (3.40) Leicester (2.55)19.30: (4.50) West Ham (3.80) Liverpool (1.85)***odds are subject to change
