Times are bad to be a Manchester Red

On this day in 1986, Sir Alex Ferguson took charge of his first game as manager of Manchester United. He didn’t do too bad during his 26-year stint – two times World’s Best Club Coach, thirteen times English champion, two Champions League trophies, five times FA Cup winner and 4 EFL Cup titles. Not bad. Not bad at all.And ever since the amazing Scot left the managerial post at Old Trafford in 2013, Man United have been trying to find themselves. Unsuccessfully.David Moyes took over after his countryman and flopped. Ryan Giggs segwayed until the arrival of Louis van Gaal who disappointed also. Jose Mourinho got everyone’s hopes up with the Europa League trophy in 2017 but was also directed towards the exit door shortly after. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time came – in January 2019, Solskjaer won his seventh out of seven games in charge of United (a new club record) and in March that year, following victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, he was given the job permanently.Sat, 20/11, 18.00: (6.50) WATFORD (4.40) MAN UNITED (1.55)It has been a massive see-saw for the supporters of one of the biggest football clubs. Constant back-and-forth between periods of dominance and annoying spells caused a pretty toxic environment in the red side of Manchester.Pricy signings didn’t do much since Sir Alex left – the transfer politics managed to bring several big names but what made fans furious is that those most expensive usually under-performed in the red shirt or were nailed to the substitutes bench. The Norwegian has access to immense talent but it seems as if he has not enough managerial quality to fit all the pieces together. Many Man Utd legends criticized their former team’s form however – maybe because most of them were teammates with Solskjaer – some keep defending the current manager by looking for excuses in all other places.BREAKING: Arsenal move above Manchester United in the League. 👇👇 pic.twitter.com/VbmwFNeI0T— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) November 7, 2021 The two who hold nothing back are ex-midfielders Roy Keane and Paul Scholes. Especially Keane – former captain has been maybe the harshest towards the ongoing situation. There are even fans who believe Keane has been too harsh. After the most recent derby defeat at Old Trafford, a fan approached Keane and criticized the retired Irish player. The 50-year-old was called ‘an absolute pr***’ to which Keane gave a passionate response.’Oh, because you’ve had a few drinks and they (United) got beat you’re taking it out on me? What’s that got to do with me?’You’ve had a few drinks, I can tell. What have you had, two pints? Tell all your mates not to lecture me.’🚨⚽️ | NEW: Roy Keane confronting a fan pic.twitter.com/OEhksccJ37— Football For All (@FootballlForAll) November 7, 2021 Player’s dedication to the club’s reputation, crest and integrity is also something former United footballers keep focusing on, and rightfully so. In almost every match there is at least one player who shows he does not care as much as the fans would expect. The dressing room situation also looks like it goes from smiles to frowns. Latest inside rumours speculate that Bruno Fernandes is among the senior players who feel they are not getting enough direction from Solskjaer and his coaching staff. Respectable Sportsmail also reveals that Cristiano Ronaldo feels that standards have dropped at United significantly since he left the club 12 years ago.As far as the expensive but forgotten signings go, the players sympathise with Donny van de Beek over the way he has been treated by Solskjaer. Also, despite missing training for two days before the game with flu, Marcus Rashford played almost half an hour in the Manchester derby which adds to questioning Solskjaer’s vision and approach.Furious Keane: I would grab Ole by the collar: why do you play Fred?’Something needs to change – and fast – if United wish to become the force to be reckoned with again. At the beginning of the season, United and Chelsea were added to Liverpool and Manchester City as candidates for the domestic title – some betting sites even favoured the Red Devils, given the arrivals of prolific trophy winners Ronaldo and Raphael Varane and massive fresh talent in the form of Jadon Sancho. But the inconsistency in results, defensive mistakes on a regular basis, being tactically indecisive, lack of commitment – it all brought Man United to a place where they will potentially have to fight for the Champions League spots.Manchester is blue – Citizens are just too much for the unstable United
