Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa has revealed that the government has not yet availed money to support Harambee Stars in their away 2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifying match against Uganda at St. Marys Kitende.Harambee Stars are scheduled to jet out of the country on Wednesday morning even without support from the government, with the federation boss saying that they have made arrangements for the team to travel nevertheless.💬 | “We still have a lot to fight for, we push till the end as we build for the future. It’s an East African Derby and so we have to fight for our pride and ensure that we come back home with a positive result,” ~ Michael Olunga, Harambee Stars Captain#Tunaweza pic.twitter.com/dOatQ4R1rc— Harambee Stars (@Harambee__Stars) November 9, 2021 Mwendwa added that they sent their request a month ago and followed it up with a reminder a week ago but there has been no response whatsoever from the government.”The government has not supported the team. We sent our request to the government one month before, we sent a reminder last week but we have had no response from them. So we have had to talk to our partners and we have taken everything on credit. Of course in Uganda, we cannot take anything on credit so we have tried to find a way on how we can get the team going. I have raised this issue, we have written to the minister and the sports fund. We do not know why every time this has to happen,” the FKF boss said.According to Mwendwa, this is not the first time that there is a delay from the government in terms of support for the national teams, as the same happened in the away match against Mali last month.Look who’s back 💪💪#Tunaweza pic.twitter.com/WjynV9pykf— Harambee Stars (@Harambee__Stars) November 8, 2021 He further revealed that Harambee Starlets did not receive any form of support in their two-legged clash against South Sudan in their AWCON Qualifiers at Nyayo National Stadium.”As you have seen, we are being accused of things but while we are happy to go on with these processes that are being put on us everybody must be accountable as we are and we must support the national teams. Not only this team, but the Starlets were also not supported for the South Sudan game both home and away despite sending everything. We have also not gotten any communication saying that they will not fund the team. When we went to Mali, they only sent us money when we were in Mali. We are not supported yet. We hope that we will be supported. I want to thank Mozzart Bet for staying on,” he added.Nick Mwendwa opens up on source of conflict with CS AminaThe federation and the ministry of sports have not been seeing eye to eye lately after Sports CS Amina ordered an inspection audit in the federation over the alleged misappropriation of Sh244.59 million meant for preparations of the Harambee Stars during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) among other allegations, with Mwendwa claiming that the CS wants him out of office by all means.
