Kenya’s Harambee Stars have scored a mere goal in four group E matches of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers matches while conceding seven. The shyness in front of the goal can be largely be attributed to the few scoring chances the team has been creating as well as the loneliness the underfed skipper Michael Olunga has had to endure upfront. With Stars set to take on Uganda Cranes on Thursday at St. Mary’s Kitende in the penultimate qualifier, Olunga is certain that the team will pump in goals from the attack-minded training sessions they had prior to departure. The Qatar based forward who rubbished suggestions that he was under pressure to replicate his club form at the national team said the scoring responsibilities were not exclusively placed on his shoulders but the entire team. To increase the chances of Stars getting goals in Uganda, coach Engin Firat summoned the Japan based Ismael Dunga and recalled Masud Juma to offer support to Olunga up front.“It is something the team addressed in training. We created some decent creating chances in our previous match and have to maximize on them when we take on Uganda,” he said.Olunga who inherited the armband from the retired Victor Wanyama in the meantime admitted that the clash will be tough owing to the bragging rights attached to it.Here’s the squad for our final round of 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against the @UgandaCranes and Rwanda 👇🔗 https://t.co/cAV3j5OLpA#Tunaweza pic.twitter.com/QWbxxg5Ijz— Harambee Stars (@Harambee__Stars) November 10, 2021 While Kenya will be gunning for her first win in the pool, Uganda who sit second in the group with eight points will be hoping to bag maximum points and inch closer to advancing to the second round of the qualifiers. We have a strategy to win the match from the positive training sessions we had. We have to fight for the pride of the country,” he added.
