Norwich City are on the lookout for a new boss to take them out of the relegation battle they find themselves after the expectedly slow start to the season. Daniel Farke has been sacked and there were two candidates to fill the vacant position: Frank Lampard and Dean Smith. It looked like we were going to have a two-horse race until Lampard ruled himself out.Such is the life of a football coach: you get sacked by a club for underperforming and there could still be those willing to offer you another gig. Lampard was fired by Chelsea last season after an unconvincing spell in charge of the Blues and has been out of work since. Smith, on the other hand, has been jobless for just a few days since being shown the door by Aston Villa. They had initial interviews with the club and have impressed – but Lampard decided to take himself out of the running after additional conversations with the club on Friday afternoon. He thanked for the offer but ultimately felt that the job isn’t right for him at this stage of his career.🚨🚨 BREAKING: Frank Lampard has rejected the chance to become Norwich manager. He is currently using his unexpected free time to visit his son in America. But he impressed in his video-call interview, boasting an in-depth knowledge of the squad, playing style and culture of the club. The Canaries are bottom of the Premier League with five points from 11 games and their next game is at home against Southampton on November 20. They fired their coach Daniel Farke just a few hours after they’d gotten their first Premier League win of the 2021/22 campaign. The timing of the decision was widely ridiculed by football fans around England, but the Norwich bosses didn’t care much about it. They chose to look ahead and choose a new boss. With reports suggesting Frank Lampard has pulled out of the running for the Norwich job, it looks like Dean Smith is all set to take over at Carrow Road 👀 pic.twitter.com/iZgpybsmYJ— ODDSbible (@ODDSbible) November 12, 2021 Initial candidates Kjetil Knutsen of Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt and Southampton tactician Ralph Hassenhuttl were the early candidates, but neither of them would leave their current positions to take over at Carrow Road. The Canaries’ tally of just five league goals is alarming when you factor that two of those came from the penalty spot. Whoever becomes the new boss, they will have a big task to get the team firing on all cylinders before relegation becomes a certainty rather than a possibility. Is Dean Smith the man?
