Vihiga Queens meet Rivers Angels in a make or break CAF Women Champions League

After losing in their opening group match at the opening game of the inaugural CAF Women Champions League against Mamelodi Sundowns, just like they did in the opening game of the regional qualifiers for the same tournament, Vihiga Queens are back into contention for a semifinal berth in the main event when they face off with Rivers Angels in the final group game.In the regional qualifiers, Queens dusted themselves off after falling in the opening game and seem to be on track to replicate the same in Egypt following their exploits against group favorites AS FAR Club to keep their hopes alive.Rivers Angels lost in the opening games against AS FAR Club by three goals without a reply, before losing their consecutive one against Mamelodi Sundowns by a solitary goal.’The @Vihigaqueens vs ASFAR FC Woman of the Match award set for me high standards&therefore I have to either maintain or improve on that as we face @Rivers_Angels tomorrow in our final Group B match,’ Tereza Engesha during today’s Pre-match Press Conference.#ItsTimeItsNow pic.twitter.com/8LzBZnvrB7— Vihiga Queens FC (@Vihigaqueens) November 11, 2021 The Nigerians are yet to score a goal in the competition and come up against a Vihiga Queens side that has conceded only once, scoring twice and have a team that scored up to 11 goals in a single match in the zonal qualifiers.##NAJAVA_MECA_5967296##Ahead of the match, Vihiga Queens tactician Charles Okere has urged his charges to make use of and convert every chance that comes their way as they might need the goals to confirm their qualification.“We lost the first match, tried to motivate ourselves and won the second match. This match is very important for us to qualify. We know that the 3 points might not be enough, and we might need more goals. I talked with the team that we need every chance to be a goal. I would like to thank CAF for this tournament, it’s a very successful one. We are very happy with this opportunity, and to have it here in Egypt is a great choice in my opinion, it feels like a second home to us,” Okere said.🇰🇪 @Vihigaqueens got El Salam Stadium 𝘽𝙐𝙕𝙕𝙄𝙉𝙂! 👯🎤#TotalEnergiesCAFWCL | #ItsTimeItsNow pic.twitter.com/XUnRwpBq2P— #TotalEnergiesCAFWCL (@CAFwomen) November 9, 2021 Despite having no point to their name, Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon is adamant that they still have a chance and they will give the game the seriousness it deserves by winning with a big margin.“We lost the first two matches, but everything is possible in football as long as 1+1=2. We can win and with a big goal difference, we just need the match to go as we plan,” Okon said.Despite losing in their regional qualifiers final to Hasaacas Ladies, Rivers Angels qualified for the tournament as the region was allowed to produce two teams owing to the fact that it is the region of the current Africa Women Cup of Nations champions. If Vihiga Queens manage to finish first in their group, they will face off with Malabo Kings in the semifinal. If they finish second, a tough encounter awaits them against Hasaacas Ladies.
