Aubameyang nearly joined Spurs instead of Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a consistent goal scorer since his Bundesliga days, when he played for Borussia Dortmund. When he went to the Premier League and Arsenal, the goals just kept coming until recently. And like any other striker, Auba also has his ‘favorite customer’, against whom he is always extra motivated to score. In his case, it’s the eternal rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Gunners captain scored four times in seven games against the Spurs, a quite nice statistics. 🗣 “I went to the stadium, White Hart Lane. The day after they never called back.”@Auba reveals that he was close to signing for Tottenham back when he was at Saint-Étienne and says now he would rather retire than sign for the North London rivals pic.twitter.com/p9RWpaHbLG— Football Daily (@footballdaily) November 12, 2021 One can assume that it’s because of the rivalry between the clubs, but it’s actually more because of Aubameyang’s episode while still in France. Before signing for Dortmund, and eventually Arsenal, the Gabon international was on trial with the Spurs, but it didn’t went well. So when Auba was asked by fans in he would rather retire or sign for Spurs, the answer as expected.“You know the answer. I don’t know if you know but a few years ago I was close to signing for Tottenham and at the end I don’t know what they did. I was in St-Etienne I think when I was close to signing, I’m not sure, or at the beginning of Dortmund. I don’t remember exactly. I came here to north London, I went to the stadium as well to White Hart Lane. The day after they just never gave an answer, they never called back so I was like ‘ok, don’t worry’, so that’s why every time I play against them, they know why I’m motivated to perform” recalls the Gabon international for Sky Sports. At Arsenal they wonder – if not Vlahovic, why not Kulusevski?Another fan question was also about Tottenham, and when he asked what was Aubameyang’s first thoughts when Antonio Conte was named Spurs manager, the answer as simple:‘I don’t care’.
