CAF weighs in on government – FKF saga

The African football governing body, CAF, has for the first time weighed in on the currently ongoing saga in the country’s football scene since the government’s decision, through the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage, resolved to disband the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and appoint in its place a caretaker committee. In what could be seen as government interference should FIFA make that decision through its Bureau of FIFA Council, CAF noted its concern with the recent unfoldings that has not only seen a caretaker committee officially commence its duties after being appointed but also the arrest of FKF top honchos Nick Mwendwa and Barry Otieno, president and CEO respectively, arrested for reported misappropriation of funds.⚽️ CAF Media Statement on the developments in Kenyan football #CAF #CAFOnline #footballhttps://t.co/5ZFicj0Hn7— CAF Media (@CAF_Media) November 14, 2021 In a statement released on Sunday, CAF noted its concern with the unfolding happenings that have shook the scene and garnered world wide attention. The body, while opting not to make any further comments until they get a full picture of the matter, offered to avail itself to meet the relevant stakeholders to try and discuss the solutions to the current impasse.Full CAF Statement CAF has noted with concern reports in Kenya media on the developments in that country including the alleged arrest of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa. In addition, CAF has also noted the letter from FIFA to the Government authorities in Kenya on the concerns regarding the independence of the Football Kenya Federation highlighted in recent weeks. CAF supports the position of FIFA on the matter and will avail itself to meet relevant stakeholders in Kenya to discuss solutions to the current impasse in this regard. CAF is deeply concerned about the situation and the manner in which the situation is unfolding and notes all the allegations that have been made. CAF is committed to good governance in African football administration. At this stage, we will not make any further comments until we have full understanding of the entire picture. CAF together with FIFA are monitoring the situation.
