Out of contract national team coach Engin Firat has spoken of his desire to stay in control of Harambee Stars after mustering his first victory in over fifteen games starting from his tenure in Moldova..Firat has been in charge of the national team since August when he was offered a three-month contract. During that period, he has overseen four games, losing two (both to Mali), drew with Uganda before downing Rwanda. His future at the helm of the national team is in big doubt following the disbandment of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) by the government and the appointment of a Caretaker Committee to run football affairs in the country.FTHarambee Stars 2-1 Amavubi StarsKenya finally get a World Cup qualifiers win, Odada scored his first goal for the national team, that’s probably Engin Firat’s last match as Harambee Stars coach.#WorldCupQualifiers pic.twitter.com/C73V7WRK0j— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) November 15, 2021 With his contract expiring, it is highly likely that the Committee will let go of the former Moldova National team coach but the tactician says he would like to continue.“To be honest, I see a big future and potential in this country. When I took the job, I said that if I don’t see any future, then there is no need of staying. But these boys have shown the potential and that is all a coach can ask for and therefore I am interested to stay. Everybody who is not blind can see that this team has a very bright future. Don’t forget all these boys are 20 or 21 years old. At this age, they can still play for 10 more years,” he stated.Firat was also full of praise for the players who remained professional despite the turmoil surrounding the game.”I am really proud of the boys that they were able to handle this situation. The psychological depression has been so much for the players. We did not know what would happen tomorrow because there were a lot of things happening. Even me I got confused so how about the players,” he said.I’ve watched all the matches under Engin Firat..The improvement is immense.I wish he could get more time to guide this team.Well done Firat.— Nebs (@ItsKubasu) November 15, 2021
