Reprieve for struggling Kayole as fundraiser offers lifeline

Days after declaring readiness to face relegation owing to their financial situation, Women Premier League (WPL) side Kayole Starlets head coach Joshua Sakwa says the side will begin preparations for the 2021/22 season on Monday. Kayole Starlets ready for relegation as financial woes biteThe tactician revealed that efforts by the club and well-wishers to fundraise have been fruitful and the team has managed to collect more than Kshs 300,000 that will enable the side to honour the first few matches of the season as they find a more permanent solution to their financial woes. “We have been able to raise the substantial amount that gives us the confidence to get back in training. To ensure financial stability in the team, we have also written proposals to potential sponsors and are hoping they will come through for the girls,” said Sakwa who is back at the helm of the club taking over from Jackeline Juma who had joined as head coach but only guided the side in their Women’s Cup semifinal against Vihiga Queens. They signed me to play for them in the Kenya Women’s Premier League a couple of years back!!! (@beebree0) November 7, 2021 Following their earlier decision not to honour any league matches, Kayole had terminated all player contracts, allowing them to seek engagements with other teams. Three of the players have already switched allegiance with the duo of Juliet Auma and Lupemba Lorerita joining Thika Queens while Faith Atieno decamped to Wadadia. “We are targeting to sign 20 players. Most of those we will be giving contracts have played for the team in the past but we have few additions to make to strengthen the team and replace those who left,” added Sakwa.
