Rodgers about Manchester job: ‘Don’t be disrespectful to Ole’

If you read the British newspapers, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a dead man walking. Even the Manchester based media, usually the most informed about the day-to-day work in United, are writing about a potential change in the dugout. And the timing of those articles is strange, since Solskjaer was in most dangerous position after a disaster against Liverpool, and yet, these stories are appearing regularly now, during the international break and ahead of an easy game against relegation strugglers Watford. Zidane’s reunion at Old Trafford?Since Antonio Conte’s appointment at Spurs means that Italian is out of the equation, only two ‘candidates’ have been mentioned as serious ones: Brendan Rodgers and Zinedine Zidane. And while the Frenchman has been silent so far, Leicester boss was quick to deny any rumors about him and Manchester United. During a press conference ahead of a tough match with Chelsea, former Liverpool boss even claimed that journalists are disrespectful for asking such questions. “Firstly, it’s really disrespectful for you to ask the question when you have a manager in place, a good manager and a good man, who’s working at the club. Secondly, I can’t really comment on it because it’s something that’s not real. I’m here as the Leicester City manager. I’m proud to be here, privileged to be here and fully committed to the players, the club, the ownership. That’s about it really. All the other noise around that is something we can’t control. The noise doesn’t frustrate me personally. My focus is always on the next game, so the only club I’m thinking about is Chelsea and getting ready for that” said Rodgers.##NAJAVA_MECA_5983667##Before United, Leicester boss was connected with another United – Newcastle, but he refused that idea as well. Off course, one can never know if things will change in the near future when (and if) Ole gets the sack and the Red Devils make an official call to Rodgers, but for now, it’s safe to say that Brendan is staying put. “It’s frustrating for supporters and my players. If anyone is to read anything that’s out there, that can destabilise, but it’s something that from a personal perspective, it’s something that it’s in the modern game and much more so now, but something I have no focus on whatsoever. My own commitment, I’ve said any time there is a link, I’ve got a huge respect for Khun Top and the protection of his father’s legacy and what he brings. I feel I’m in the right place at the right time in the right environment and with the right people. When you have that feeling every day and you have that ambition to maximise what you can from the club, that gives me a joy and a happiness to be here. I work with a calibre of players we’re trying to rinse everything out of and maximise their potential. All of that combined, I’m very happy here” said Rodgers.
