When a massive club like Manchester United is on a lookout for a manager, everybody is waiting for a phone call. Even Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce! The reason is simple: The Red Devils gave them hope, by announcing that they would selected an interim manager until the end of the season and then appoint a new coach. After complicating life for themselves, Red Devils are now connected with every serious (and not so serious) coach in the world. And while contact with Mauricio Pochettino has been established, United’s sporting director John Murtough is leading the search for the new interim manager, in case that Poch’s negotiations fail. And today a new name emerged: Ernesto Valverde. Former Barcelona coach is out of job since he was sacked by the Catalonians in 2019 after leading them to two La Liga trophies and one Copa Del Rey. Apparently, he is one of five other interim manager candidates who are being considered if Pochettino deal doesn’t materialize.Manchester United board had a direct contact with former Barça manager Ernesto Valverde today, as per @JamieJackson___ 🔴 #MUFCNo decision made yet – he’s one of the five candidates in the list in case Mauricio Pochettino won’t be allowed to leave Paris Saint-Germain.— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) November 23, 2021 But what’s happening with PSG coach? Well, the Argentinian came to Manchester ahead of Champions League duel between the Parisians and City, and the first question at the press conference was – the United job.”I am not a kid, I am not a child. I spend my whole life playing football and now 12 years being a coach. We are in a business where the rumors are there, I completely understand, sometimes in a positive or a negative way. For tomorrow we are so focused to try and get the best result we can. I think we cannot talk about that, my respect to my club, my respect to another man, what that club is doing is not my business. I need to be focused on Paris Saint-Germain. I’m not going to make the mistake to talk. I am so happy at PSG, I am focused to try and give my best. I was a player at PSG, I love the club, I love the fans, it’s a fantastic time to be at the club. I think I was clear. I said to you all that my contract is until 2023. It is this season and one season more. I am really happy at Paris Saint-Germain. That is a fact. The fact is I am happy in Paris“ said the Argentinian.Olunga’s Duhail land tough group in Champions LeagueApart from Valverde, Ralf Rangnick is also in consideration for the interim coach role. And don’t forget, Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce are also expecting a call and are interested. Former United player and City coach even publicly confirmed so.„I haven’t had a call yet so I wouldn’t be too excited about it at the moment because I don’t think it’s going to happen, but you never know. It’s a great position, one that a lot of managers would be very interested in, myself included“ said Hughes.
