Akumu features in Kaizer Chiefs draw

Kenyan international Anthony Akumu featured for slighly over half an hour as Kaizer Chiefs and Amazulu played to a one-all draw in a PSL match on Wednesday evening with both teams finishing the match with 10 men.The Stuart Baxter charges took the lead just 20 minutes into the game courtesy of a Keagan Buchanan own goal with Amazulu leveling matters with just 13 minutes left to play courtesy of super-sub Bongi Ntuli.Once again, Baxter opted for the midfield trio of Njabulo Ngcobo, Phathutshedzo Nange, and Cole Alexander, coming on in the 66th minute to replace Nange.Keagan Dolly made yet another trademark run on the right before producing a low cross towards the on-rushing Kgaogelo Sekgota but it was Buchanan who got there first and sent the ball inside his own net to give Chiefs the lead.45 + 2’| #CHI 1 : 0 #AMA Half time score: (Buchanan o.g 20’) Kaizer Chiefs 1 : 0 AmaZulu FC #Amakhosi4Life #DStvPrem pic.twitter.com/fH9AOKhQ5C— Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) November 24, 2021 Dictating play after getting the numerical advantage, Amazulu charged forward via the right channel through Andre Earnest De Jong who crossed the ball for Ntulii to slot home, an effort from two substitutes, to the delight of Benni McCarthy. The hosts were dealt a blow in the 26th minute after being forced to withdraw Reeve Frosler and replace him with Ramahlwe Mphahlele after the 23-year old was unable to continue having had a nasty clash of heads with Augustine Mulenga earlier in the ninth minute.Chiefs had to make do with a man less for the final 30 minutes of the match after Cole Alexander was given his marching orders for a second bookable offense, having been cautioned in the stoppage time of the first half.90 + 4’| #CHI 1 : 1 #AMA Full time score: (Buchanan o.g 20’) Kaizer Chiefs 1 : 1 AmaZulu FC (Ntuli 77’)#Amakhosi4Life #DStvPrem pic.twitter.com/Wcb0tB4mCQ— Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) November 24, 2021 Amazulu would also be reduced to 10 men with five minutes left to play after Samkelo Mgwazela was dismissed after picking a second yellow card in the match having picked his first earlier in the first half.Akumu has made eight appearances, starting only once against Supersport United last month as Chiefs won 2-1 while making the other seven appearances off the bench. The draw leaves Chiefs fifth on the log with 19 points, same as Supersport United who have a superior goal difference after their draw with Mamelodi Sundowns.
