Kakamega Homeboyz defender Sylvester Owino is likely to join Portuguese second tier side CF Estrela De Amadora on permanent basis in the next year after returning from trials. The fast-rising central defender jetted back on Wednesday from the three-week long trials that he termed as successful.Owino revealed that the club honchos were impressed with his quality and were open to giving him a contract in the mid season transfer window. The national U23 defender regretted that the opportunity to turn professional came at a time when the transfer window was already shut but expressed hope that the two clubs will agree over his transfer next year. “They told me I ticked right their boxes and I will be considered when the window opens. I still have a contract with Homeboyz and I pray that the wto will strike a deal,” he said. The former Vihiga Bullets disclosed that Estrela coaches were keen on him getting his basics right and advised him to keep on polishing them.” I learnt a lot from the weeks I trained with them. Their coaches were strict on basics and advised me to keep on improving. It was great interacting with them although language barrier was a challenge especially amongst the players,” he revealed.Meanwhile, Owino says he is set to rejoin the Homeboyz camp next week and continue serving the club even as he waits for a life changing call from Lisbon. The Kisumu Day Secondary School alumnus said he was ready to fight for his place in the Bernard Mwalala first team that had not lost a league game before the competition was stopped. The budding player will face an uphill task in dislodging Brian Eshihanda who had filled in his shoes for the time he had been away. The latter had formed a rock solid partnership with George Odiwuor at the heart of the defence.
