South B United Sports Academy (SUSA) edged out Mariakani Christian Centre (MCC) 4-2 in post-match penalties after a one-all draw in regulation time in a Patrick Oboya Cup quarter final match played at the Police Band Ground in South B on Sunday afternoon. The hosts, South B was the better side in the opening stages of the game and had a chance as early as the first minute when Jared Kilianton found space at the edge of the area before unleashing a shot that Isaiah Soita on MCC goal dealt with.. Moments later another chance went Shaban Chaka’s way but he shot over from inside the penalty area.MCC managed to see off the early pressure from South B and started to show more ambition going forward. They particularly looked dangerous on the break and through set pieces.South B should have gone ahead in the 24th minute when Francis Voti was set up by Geoffrey Chege but with only the keeper to beat, the attacker failed to beat Soita who pulled a fantastic low shot to keep the scores level. The home team continued to attack relentlessly but Soita on MCC goal kept denying them and helped his team to head to the break level with the dominant South B who were ruing the endless opportunities that they had failed to make count.Second halfThe start of the second half was electric, Brian Olima had a good opportunity to give MCC the lead a minute into the restart but he shot directly at the keeper from a prime position. At the other end, Chaka hit the side net after a quick break. Next was Kilianton who shot wide from the edge of the area.South B finally got the goal they had been yearning for in the 57th minute through Chaka who rose high to head home a deserved goal. The lead however lasted for just five minutes before captain Gabriel Odhiambo restored parity in a scrappy fashion after South B failed to clear a loose ball inside the area. The clash slowly became an end to end affair with both teams attacking viciously in search of more goals. None of the sides could get the winning goal and the game had to be settled from the spot.Penalties In post-match penalties, Frezeier Mango’li, Gabriel Odhiambo converted for MCC while Brian Sure, Philip Simiyu, missed their post kicks. For South B, Benedict Ajembe, Michael Gabriel, Jared Kilianton and Mohamed Abdalla all converted.SUSA will now play Rongai FC in the semis.
