Joash Onyango gets full feature as Simba close gap at the top

Harambee Stars international Joash Onyango featured for the full length of the game as his Simba side recorded a 2-1 victory against Geita Gold in a Tanzanian Ligi Kuu Bara match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday evening.Prior to the match, Simba were riding high on confidence as they boasted of having never lost a match since their 24th September capitulation where they were shockingly thrown out of the CAF Champions League by Tswana minnows Jwaneng Galaxy.✍️ Kikosi cha kuwakabili wachimbaji wa madini. #NBCPremierLeague #NguvuMoja pic.twitter.com/7BSYs9QmDd— Simba Sports Club (@SimbaSCTanzania) December 1, 2021 Since then, the Wekendu wa Msimbazi picking up five wins and a draw in the subsequent six games played in all competitions. In the match, the team did not struggle to display their buoyant form as just nine minutes in, Peter Banda found the back of the net as he gave his team the upper hand after being picked out by Denis Kibu. After the goal, there was little decisive action to alter the scoreline as Simba went into the break with the slender advantage.Upon resumption of the second half though, Simba once again upped the ante and benefited from it when Mzamiru Yassin doubled their lead after being fed by Bernard Morrison three minutes to the hour mark.Tunaondoka na alama zote tatu za mchezo 💪 #NBCPremierLeague #NguvuMoja pic.twitter.com/YH8MsbepSX— Simba Sports Club (@SimbaSCTanzania) December 1, 2021 Ten minutes after the hosts managed their second strike, though, Juma Hassan Mahaddi managed to pull one back for the visitors as they threatened to go down fighting.Despite their attempts to get back, the resolute Simba defense marshalled by Onyango and co was not letting for a second time as Simba held on to seal the 2-1 victory.Following the win, Simba reduced the deficit to the table-topping Yanga to only two points as they went to 17 after seven rounds of matches played. On the other hand, the defeat left Keita Gold languishing in the relegation zone as they sit second from bottom on five points.
