No fuss, no stress, no resistance: The Rossoneri go top of the league – for a few hours at least

There will be a big game in Naples tonight as two great sides meet at Stadio Diego Maradona – Napoli v Atalanta. But it was Milan who made sure to add extra flavour to that game with a comfortable win over Salernitana – a win that lifted them over Napoli and to the top of the table.Franck Kessie is usually in charge for scoring from the spot at Milan, but today he scored a real poacher’s goal early on to give his team an early lead against Serie A’s basement side. It was an easy goal after Rafael Leao’s done most of the work with a lovely charge down the left and into the area.Injuries are currently looking like Milan’s curse because they were forced into an early substitution after Pietro Pellegri found himself on the ground just 15 minutes into the game.Alexis Saelemaekers made it 2-0 with less than 20 minutes on the clock and all but ensured a win for Stefano Pioli’s team.It was a welcome result, especially after the news of Simon Kjaer having to miss the rest of the season with knee ligament damage. Milan will be without their centre-back for the rest of the season, but today they might as well played without half of their defence – that’s how inept the visitors were going forward.Salernitana manager Stefano Colantuono attempted to change things by introducing Grigoris Kastanos at the break, but had little joy, with Milan continuing to attack. The home side seemed content with their two-goal lead, as they kept possession without creating real chances. Salernitana’s lack of goal scoring threat came as no surprise when considering the fact that no side has netted fewer goals in the Italian top tier this season.Pioli took Kessie, Leao, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Theo Hernandez off to keep the team fresh ahead of their all-important Champions League clash with Liverpool that’s coming up on Tuesday.Brahim Diaz, as well as substitutes Sandro Tonali and Junior Messias had chances late on to make Milan’s win even more convincing, but those two early goals proved enough to lift the red and blacks to the summit of Serie A. How long will they stay up there depends on the Neapolitans.SERIE 1 – ROUND 16SaturdayMilan – Salernitana 2-0 (2-0)/Kessie 5, Saelemaekers 18/20:00: (3.80) Roma (3.50) Inter (2.10)22:45: (2.60) Napoli (3.40) Atalanta (2.85)Sunday14:30: (2.90) Bologna (3.30) Fiorentina (2.60)17:00: (3.40) Spezia (3.60) Sassuolo (2.20)17:00: (3.45) Venezia (3.40) Verona (2.25)20:00: (3.45) Sampdoria (3.50) Lazio (2.20)22:45: (1.27) Juventus (6.00) Genoa (14.0)Monday20:30: (2.65) Empoli (3.30) Udinese (2.85)22:45: (3.40) Cagliari (3.25) Torino (2.35)***odds are subject to change***
