Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala is elated after his side maintained their near-perfect run in the league this season with yet another win over Nzoia Sugar FC at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma. After a four-week break, the FKF Premier League (FKF-PL) resumed on Saturday with one of the matches being Nzoia vs Homeboyz at the Millers’ backyard. A Stephen Opoku strike settled the closely fought match and in the process stretched Nzoia Sugar’s winless run this season to seven matches. In an interview, Mwalala expressed his delight at bagging maximum points from the derby. He admitted that the match was however far from comfortable and wants to build on the result going forward.“Homeboyz vs Nzoia Sugar is always a derby and getting the three points on the road is very important for us. As you know the league had been stopped and getting three points after the resumption of the league is very important for us, we will build on that going forward,” he told Mozzart Sport.Mundu khu Mundu pic.twitter.com/Gkfz2lbFaR— Kakamega Homeboyz FC (@FcHomeboyz) December 4, 2021 Mwalala has previously coached Nzoia Sugar FC. He in fact guided them back to the top tier in 2017 and over a decade in the lower leagues. He admits that the familiarity between the two sides made the match difficult. A number of current Homeboyz players such as Stephen Wakanya, Steven Etyang, David Odhiambo, Thomas Wainaina have previously tuned out for Nzoia Sugar and for the tactician, such factors made the game difficult.“It is always difficult playing against your former team because they know your style of play and all the tactics that you use. You can also say that it was Nzoia vs Nzoia because a good number of current Homeboyz players have played for Nzoia Sugar before, I was here as a coach and so it was like some form of reunion. The most important thing is that we got the three points. We know the areas that we need to work on before we play Mathare United on Wednesday,” he added.Homeboyz are currently second in the league with 16 points.
