Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu is set to miss KAA Gent’s final UEFA Europa Conference League group stage game after the 24 year old was left out of the matchday squad named to take on Estonian side Flora on Thursday night. The decision to leave out Okumu out of the squad tonight comes as no surprise as the former Chemelil Sugar defender was forced off with an injury in their last game against Leuven in the Belgian Pro League.“Okumu suffers too much from a collision with Kaba and is replaced by Godeau,” the club posted an update when he was taken off from the game.Marcelo secures Conference League qualifiers spot as Okumu picks up injury in BelgiumHowever, since the 4 December incident, Gent have not put out any information to reveal the extent of the injury or how long the player will be sidelined.Going into the final clash without Okumu, Gent are already assured of claiming pole position in the group and advancing to the quarter finals even if they lose tonight. The team did their lion’s share of the work early and they currently top Group B on 10 points followed by Partizan who have 7, then third placed Flora who have all to play for as they are on 5 as well as bottom placed Arnothosis.👥 Squad news#GNTFLO #UECL pic.twitter.com/i8kLroHebL— KAA Gent (@KAAGent) December 8, 2021 Despite already securing passage to the knockout, Okumu’s Norwegian defense partner Andreas Hanche-Olsen has called on his side not to rest on their laurels”I expect a game in which we are dominant. We don’t go for less. If we are not at the appointment, it will be a tough game. It is not because we are already placed that we can now bulge. There will certainly be other guys get their chance but the quality has to stay the same. I remember Flora Tallinn as a good collective. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable match.”
