Tusker skipper Eugene Asike is angling for back to back league titles to have another shot in the CAF Champions League after falling short this campaign. The Brewers suffered elimination at the hands of five-time African champions Zamalek SC in the First Round and failed to make it to the Group Stages of the Confederation Cup after being denied by CS Sfaxien.Great team effort. We left it all on the field.Disappointed to bow out of the tournament by a single goal but we leave with our heads held high.Lots of experience gained.Focus shifts back to the league.Proud of the boys.@tusker_fc pic.twitter.com/BOOzT2Omzh— Eugene Asike (@eugeneasike) December 5, 2021 Asike opened up on the wealth of experience gained from brushing shoulders with African elite sides in the continental club competitions as they look to stage a comeback next season. “It has been a very good experience. We have travelled to Djibouti, Egypt and Tunisia and we have played against high profile teams and learnt. As a team the experience we have gained will make us better in the league,” “The boys are motivated and chuffed to be back again next year and the only way to do that is win a trophy and talking to the boys, we know what is needed of us,” said Asike. The only Tusker can make a return to continental competitions is by retaining the league or winning the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup.The Robert Matano-led outfit have however had a stuttering start to the league as hover perilously close to the relegation zone as only a single point separates them from Wazito in 16th place.Stronger team on the day.Unlucky we couldn’t find the back of the net.A clean sheet and a lot of positives to take from the game.we go again in a week’s time in Tunis.#CAFCC pic.twitter.com/QCBULV2CCf— Eugene Asike (@eugeneasike) November 29, 2021 The former Sofapaka defender is however drawing inspiration from last season when they went on to clinch the league despite a tough start to the campaign. “We haven’t started the season well but again last season as well, we had a slow start. But we know the league is tougher this season because teams have really recruited well. However, we are determined and up to the task,” added Asike.
