Ulinzi Stars defender suffers yet another injury setback

Ulinzi Stars have been dealt yet another blow with the news that defender George Omondi has undergone shoulder surgery, just four months after undergoing an ACL reconstruction surgery. The club confirmed that the bulky defender underwent the process at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital and would be missing the entire season, with the other injury still in consideration.”Our defender George ‘Jijo’ Omondi underwent successful shoulder surgery earlier today at Defence Forces Memorial Hospital. This is the second time the defender has gone under the knife, having done so after suffering a knee injury last season in the second leg against Tusker FC,” the club posted.Earlier, the club confirmed that the combative defender would be out of action for up to 12 months, meaning he would be out of action for the entire 2021/2022 campaign that kicked off in late September.Omondi had limited playing time last season owing to the perfect partnership between Bonaventure Muchika and Boniface Andayi initially, before Alex Masinde cemented a place in the heart of Ulinzi’s backline to partner either of the three center-backs.The defender’s initial injury was in the the1-0 win against Nzoia in May after a collision with Hillary Simiyu who has since joined the Soldiers midway through the first half but managed to shake off the injury and finish the game, his first start for the season. He went ahead to feature for five more games, starting in all of them, two in the FKF Cup against Sofapaka and Nairobi City Stars, and three in the league against Bandari, Sofapaka, and Tusker FC which might have aggravated his injury. Also look out for George Omondi, Ulinzi Stars defender. A very promising boy— Ulinzi Stars FC (@UlinziStarsFC) February 12, 2018 In the games that Omondi featured for the Soldiers this season, he helped them managed three wins, including beating Sofapaka to advance to the FKF Cup Round of 16, losing to only Nairobi City Stars and Tusker FC.Omondi joined the Soldiers in 2018 from Liberty Academy, being thrown into the first team immediately in a 4-2 win against Zoo FC in his debut.
