Mathare’s head coach decries lack of funds behind lethargic form

Mathare United head coach Ezekiel Akwana has underlined the lack of resources as the reason behind his team’s struggles in this season’s 2021/2022 league campaign that is ongoing.Currently, the slum boys find themselves fifth from bottom on the log table having collected only 7 points from the nine games they have already played this season. Furthermore, the team are the second highest conceding team in the current season having let in 19 goals as they also negatively boast of being the side that has lost the second most games in the campaign where they have tasted defeat six out of the nine times. Champions League draw: Messi vs Ronaldo, Bayern against AtleticoWith teams currently lacking sponsorship money that accrued from grants offered by league and broadcast sponsors who have since left, the head coach has bemoaned the challenges of having to do without players who have to look for other hustles outside the game to fend for themselves.Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the head coach noted how even getting the players together during a training session has made life difficult for the slum boys who have to cope with players failing to turn up for their preparations, something that consequently affects the performance of the team.“It is really difficult currently because when you go to the top office you find that there are no resources available understandably because of Covid-19 challenges. The financial situation makes it hard to conduct training sessions because first team members are not in attendance,” he said, He continued “Most of the times you just have to plead with these players to come and attend training sessions and even when you do that, you find that you can only get a maximum of two for example. That makes it really hard to train because that is where we need to make our improvements with the team but you find that they are always unavailable.”With relegation looking more and more likely for the team if their current five match winless run is to continue, Akwana however lauded the side for always sticking together and promised that last season performances where the team just managed to survive the drop as by a whisker will not be seen in the current campaign.“Despite the challenges, the boys still keep pushing and they dedicate themselves to it. They are doing all this when we are at our very lowest. If we could find any sponsor to come on board, that will be a big boost for us. Our CEO Jectone Obure is always working hard to sort the boys in one way or another and I am sure it will not be like last season,” the coach added.
