Kenyan internationals Jesse Were and Ian Otieno played the entire 90 minutes as Zesco United fell 2-1 to Red Arrows on Wednesday afternoon. The former Tusker FC striker went for the ninth game without finding the back of the net, having done so last against Kansanshi Dynamos in October.Thabani Kamusoko opened the scoring in the match, only that this time he hit his own net 20 minutes in the game before Ricky Banda doubled the lead for Red Arrows three minutes later.Kelvin Kampamba’s ferocious strike in the second half was not enough as the home side held on to their own to bag all three points with the damage having already been done in the first half.Red Arrows made their intent clear from the first minute through the second goalscorer Banda when his effort came off the post, with Were responding immediately on the opposite goal. The former AFC Leopards custodian also had work to do in the opening stages before the own goal, being forced into action a couple of times with attacks coming across the entire Red Arrows striking force.Zesco were forced to do an early change after just 32 minutes, with Solomon Sakala and Mukuka Chanda coming on for Adrian Chama and the Kamusoko who picked up an injury.Zesco United came to life in the latter stages of the first period, with Kampamba threatening a couple of times but without success into the break.Spencer Sautu was replaced by Edward Lungu for the final 20 minutes as the Ndola-based club sought to look for the elusive equalizer to at least salvage a point from the game. The result means that Zesco have not recorded three back-to-back wins in the current campaign, coming close twice.
