Scheming Kariobangi Sharks lay eyes on title challenge this season

Kariobangi Sharks might currently be fifth on the log after just nine rounds of matches so far played in the 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) campaign, but that is not where the team would like to see itself by the time the season winds up sometime in June 2022 as anticipated.According to defender Boniface Onyango, the William Muluya-coached side have set their eyes on putting up a title challenge to rival the likes of record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia and reigning champions Tusker who have dominated the local league scene in the last decade.😄| DEPTH BOOSTBonface Onyango who had been diagnosed with patella tendinitis with hoffa’s fat impingement (left knee)has fully recovered and is available for selection.#WeAreSharks #BetwaySharks pic.twitter.com/tB1zTeFeDT— Kariobangi Sharks FC (@k_sharksfc) December 15, 2021 Since the 2011 season, no other team has been able to strip off the title from the two most successful clubs in the country with K’Ogalo clinching it seven times and the Brewers winning it four times in eleven seasons in between. This season though, Boniface reckons his side has all it takes to fight for the title and end the dominance showcased by the two. First, despite losing up to eleven key members of the team before the 2021/2022 season started, Sharks have not struggled to cope, winning five games, drawing one and losing thrice as they currently sit in fifth place on 16 points, two behind log leading and usual suspects Gor who have played a game less.“I would say our preparations have been very perfect all along and that is what has made us maintain the good run we have had so far. Our target for the season is to continue doing better to surpass last season’s results. If we can stay in the top three, it will be better but we also want first place and fight for the title,” the player told Mozzart Sport.Former players should do more than wait for token appointments in football managementBoniface who has been out of the side since November 7 due to a knee injury will be hoping to first make it back to the squad in the next fixture if he intends to help the side put up an arduous title quest. They travel away to Mombasa to take on Bandari in their next match on Friday with the team keen to overturn their poor form that has seen them lose their last two matches.
