FKF PL: Ten rookies to keep an eye on

The 2021/22 FKF Premier League has so far been breath-taking. Great goals have been scored, unbelievable saves made, points won and lost and heading into week ten, the league gets interesting with each passing week.As the league action continues, some players have stood out for their respective clubs and today we take a look at young ones who have impressed or have the potential to be great future in the future.Timothy ‘Babu’ Ouma (City Stars)The Nairobi City Stars youngster started the 2020/21 season strongly and has three goals and a couple of assists to his name. Babu is a skilful midfielder known for his great dribbling and passing skills. He’s also workaholic. He already made his national team debut in November and it is just a matter of time before he becomes a mainstay. The East African domestic leagues have been kicking off over the past month & arguably the two most outstanding players in the opening rounds have been @NrbCityStars Timothy Ouma (17) 🇰🇪 & @yangasc1935 Feisal Salum (23) 🇹🇿.Who’s impressed you in the opening rounds? pic.twitter.com/us4gwNXjsT— East Africa Eye (@theeaeye) October 22, 2021 Frank Odhiambo (Gor Mahia)The Gor Mahia Central defender has established himself at club level, partnering stalwart Harun Shakava at the heart of defence. He is a good tackler, strong in the air and industrious. His long-range passing from the back is also one of his enviable qualities. He is a Kenya U23 regular and has also earned a call up to the national team, Harambee Stars although he is yet to feature. There is something about Frank Odhiambo that most Kenyan center backs lack, he can carry the ball forward and turn defense into attack. He executed this to perfection against @k_sharksfc and provided an assist. Most Kenyan CBs like pinging long balls forward when in possession. pic.twitter.com/5wW0BrVPZ6— Imran Otieno (@Imran_Otieno) June 24, 2021 Geoffrey Onyango (Kariobangi Sharks)The youngster, a product of Sharks’ youth set up made his debut towards the end of last season. He has slowly established himself in that left-back position. He is solid defensively, quick and a good crosser of the ball. He is industrious and just can’t stop running up and down the left flank.Joseph Otieno (Bandari)Although he is not seeing much playtime at the club right now, the midfielder is highly rated within the club ranks. He made his debut against Wazito FC on the final day of last season and he did just enough to leave a mark on those who watched him. He has made a couple of appearances this season but faces stiff competition owing to the many options the Dockers have in that position. He is a good tackler, strong and shields his back four well.Levis Barasa (Nzoia Sugar FC)He announced his arrival to the FKF Premier League with a hattrick against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday at Sudi Stadium. The former Vihiga Bullets attacker, who before his move to Nzoia was unattached is very strong in the air, understands positional play well with goal-scoring instincts. Coach Ibrahim Shikanda has already labelled him a perfect Hillary Simiyu replacement. He is a man to get Nzoia out of the position that they currently are in the league and who knows how good he could grow to be.Full timeNzoia Sugar FC 3-1 Kariobangi SharksThe Millers get their first win of the season. Despite having no league experience, he was walked straight into AFC Leopards’ starting XI, partnering another new signing, Joachim Oluoch at the heart of the defence. He is young, hardworking, strong in the air and a good tackler and he will definitely get better with more minutes under his belt.Nominees for Young Player of the Year award. #FKFPLAwardsAlfred Tanui (Kisumu Allstars FC)Alvin Ochieng (Kisumu Allstars FC)Ben Stanley Omondi (Migori Youth FC)Brian Michira (Shabana FC)Kayci Odhiambo (Mt. Kenya United Fc)— Livity Kuti💙 (@1kaykay22) September 14, 2021 Robert Karisa (Sofapaka)Karisa was the top scorer in Division One last season with 23 goals before Sofapaka went for his signature. He has found playtime difficult to come by at Sofapaka although he already has a goal to his name this season. He is a forward with quick feet and precision who will in the near future establish himself and become a key player for Batoto ba Mungu.Erickson Mulu (Wazito FC)The youngster has slowly made the left back position at Wazito his and it is just a matter of time before he becomes one of the best in that position in the County. He is good defensively but it’s going forward where he explodes. He is pacy with good deliveries down the left flank. Some quick feet. Erickson Mulu. Remember this name.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/si3l0uIcnl— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) September 23, 2021 Erick Kipkirui (Kenya Police FC)The forward can be exciting and disappointing to watch in the same game, an attribute you expect from young players. He is quick, with good dribbling skills. He also has an eye for goals and has a big room for improvement.Kevin Ouma (Ulinzi Stars FC)The Ulinzi Stars central defender joined the team at the start of the season from Posta Rangers and together with Paul Muchika they have formed a formidable partnership at the back. He is strong in the air, a good tackler and good on set-pieces.
