Kakamega Homeboyz brought Gor Mahia’s unbeaten in the league to a halt after condemning the record league champions to a 2-1 defeat in an FKF Premier League game staged at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday afternoonThe match was marred by an incident of hooliganism that was meted on the referee of the game at halftime. The match official was attacked by a fan as the teams walked to the tunnel at halftime in protest of the penalty that was awarded to the hosts for the leveling goal.Ahead of the game, both teams were unbeaten in the FKF Premier League after eight rounds of matches. Both were tied at 18 points, Gor had and still has the tightest defence in the league having let in just four goals while Homeboyz have conceded six.Gor got to a dream start when new signing Peter Lwasa put them ahead in the third minute. Their advantage lasted for 15 minutes before George Odiwuor drew the hosts’ level from the spot after Yema Mwana was hacked inside the penalty area. After a delayed restart, the referees finally took to the pitch from the dressing room for the second stanza of the game. Ten minutes after the restart Homeboyz went ahead through Stephen Opoku who beat Gad Mathews with a thunderous shot and minutes later, the center referee was unable to continue with the game, the reserve referee took charge of the remainder of the game. Homeboyz had to do well defensively late on to win the game. The result takes them joint top with KCB.
