AFC Leopards winger Boniface Mukhekhe says the hunger to lay hands on his first Football Kenya Federation Premier League title is what compelled him to extend his stay at the den.At the time when the club helplessly watched their valued assets leave for greener pastures, Mukhekhe pledged his allegiance by accepting a two-year contract extension back in September.Leopards lost more than half a dozen players in the last transfer window and had to fight tooth and nail to clear their name from FIFA’s red list where they had been listed as some of the teams that had been prohibited from registering new players.⚽ Bonface MukhekheAssist @paulwere1 #Sportpesa#INGWE pic.twitter.com/ckeaygoWK1— AFC Leopards (@AFCLeopards) May 23, 2019 Mukhekhe revealed that he turned down four offers from local clubs to chase his childhood dream of winning titles while in the Leopards colours. Ingwe came close to ending their four-year wait of a major title but lost the Cup final to their sworn rival Gor Mahia. The winger acknowledged that he was cognizant of the troubles bedevilliing the club at the time he elected to renew his contract but he says the players are determined to arrest their poor start and fight for trophies.”I had the option of walking way when my contract expired last season but I decided to renew. I was aware of the financial challenges but the desire to win titles here at the den was too strong to defy. We didn’t begin our quest in a strong way but there is time to right the wrongs and start marching up on the log, “he said.Mukhekhe joined Leopards in 2019 from Nakumatt FC who have since rebranded twice and are currently operating as Dandora Love FC in the National Super League.Congratulations to the SJAK Player of the month Award for the month of May, Nakumatt FC’s Boniface Mukhekhe.Boniface impressed in the last month scoring 3 goals and also assisted 3 other goals. He beat Kepha Aswani of Sofapaka and his team-mate Cornelius Juma #KPL2018 @NakumattF pic.twitter.com/G7Xo2Dulnl— Chris Migwambo (@CMigwambo) June 27, 2018 Besides gunning for the title, Mukhekhe has his eyes fixed on scooping individual awards and representing the country in international assignments. The winger was crowned the May 2018 player of the month and featured in the national U23 team that was seeking to book a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.
