Masika at the double as Wazito thump Mathare United

Wazito FC pulled themselves out of the relegation zone following a resounding 4-1 win over Mathare United in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash staged at the Utalii Grounds on Sunday afternoon. The Moneybags went ahead through Eli Asieche before Ken Ochieng restored parity from the spot in first-half stoppage time. Musa Masika then restored Wazito’s lead from the spot just before the break. Masika and Vincent Oburu then added two more in the second half.The first two chances of the match went Wazito’s way in the fourth and fifth minutes. Both fell to Vincent Oburu but Mathare keeper Bryne Omondi denied him on both occasions. Mathare had theirs through set-pieces but Daniel Otieno and Kennedy Ochieng failed to trouble Bashir Ssekagya on Wazito goal. The midfielder was denied by Mathare keeper Omondi who pulled a fantastic save but he fired home on the rebound for a deserved Wazito lead.They continued to push for another goal. Kevin Kimani hit the crossbar while Vincent Oburu narrowly missed the target. Mathare were more reserved and tried to beat Francis Kimani’s charges on the break. Oburu should have doubled Wazito’s lead five minutes before the break but he somehow missed the target with the keeper well beaten.A minute later, Wazito keeper Ssekagya pulled his first save of the match denying John Mwangi who unleashed a shot from a tight position.The final three minutes were dramatic. Mathare were awarded a penalty in the 45th minute when Daniel Otieno was brought down inside the area, Ken Ochieng stepped forward to score for the leveller. A minute later Wazito got theirs when Asieche was tripped inside the area from which Musa Masika restored Wazito’s lead.Six minutes into the second half, Wazito extended their advantage through Masika who got his second of the game. Mathare had a rare chance in the 62nd minute through substitute Douglas Kibet but he missed the target narrowly from inside the penalty area.Things went from bad to worse for Mathare in the 68th minute when Oburu squeezed in the fourth goal.They continued to run the show in search of more goals but in the end, they had to settle for a 4-1 triumph, their biggest in top-flight history.
