Every great quarterback knows they would be nothing without their offensive line.
The men in the trenches who give them the time to set and throw the perfect spiral on the game-winning touchdown deserve a little recognition too, especially around the holidays. Ever since former Miami Dolphins QB Dan Marino famously gifted Isotoner gloves to his teammates in a memorable 1980s commercial, it’s almost become a cliché for the starting QB to at the very minimum give them a gift card to Outback Steakhouse, but with each passing year (and as the QB salaries soar) the gifts become more extravagant.
But let’s give credit where credit is due – Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray went next level this holiday season and bought his entire O-line custom golf bags and custom sets of clubs from True Spec.
The Cardinals are in the midst of a two-game losing streak and are coming off a tough loss to the lowly Detroit Lions, but still sit in first place in the NFC West with a record of 10-4. Murray’s line has been rewarded handsomely for being nice to him this season (though he did miss three games with an ankle injury after scrambling for his life.)
The bags are in Cardinals colors – white leather staff bags with each player’s name and number embroidered in red.
According to NBC News 12 in Phoenix, in Murray’s rookie season (2019), he gave all of his linemen personalized Phat Scooters with the Cardinals’ logo and each lineman’s number.
Last year, he thanked each offensive lineman by giving a painting of themselves for Christmas.
But with all the great courses to be played in the Valley of the Sun, Murray’s gift of golf has to be his his best expression of gratitude for the protection he receives on the field. Cardinals left tackle D.J. Humphries sure seems to think so. “You’ve done good,” he tells Murray as he waits for his turn to be fitted for a personalized set at True Spec.
