Manchester United’s young striker Charlie McNeill is a star of the future. But don’t take it from us. People who are experts in youngsters’ development have been saying this for years now. This boy started to play football with his grandfather in the park and his talent shone through quickly, prompting interest from many clubs in the northwest of England.Coming from a family of Manchester United supporters, Charlie’s parents agreed to enrol their son in United’s academy – but not before the talented kid had spent six months at Liverpool. But then, his parents made what may seem like a strange, but was actually a reasonable decision. His boy moved to rivals Manchester City.Charlie’s mum, Andrea, had always impressed on her son the importance of education, though, and upon hearing that City offered their more talented young players the opportunity of private education at a college in Manchester, the decision was taken to leave United – not one a family of Reds took lightly.”It was our doing – it was never a case of City poaching Charlie. As parents, we were thinking long-term. We considered that he might never get to play football professionally. As things transpired, he got better and better at football, got good grades and all of a sudden United wanted him back.”Tuesday, 22.00: (2.50) Tranmere (3.10) Harrogate T. Yes, that’s six hundred goals! Playing for the Under-15 team alone, he plundered 110 goals and claimed 38 assists in 72 matches.Such ability was never going to go unnoticed. Just before Charlie turned 17, United came calling him back. This time there were no longer doubts that professional football is on the horizon and the deal was struck. United paid an initial $880,000 rising to $1.85 million to secure the prolific striker in September 2020.
