Mwalala downplays win over Gor Mahia, calls for focus

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala has downplayed his side’s 2-1 win over Gor Mahia urging his charges to shift focus to their future games.The Kakamega based side ended Gor’s unbeaten run in the league on Saturday with a 2-1-win courtesy of goals from George Odiwuor and Stephen Opoku. They reduced Peter Lwasa’s early opener for Gor Mahia to a mere consolation strike. 2.55 Sevilla 3.10 Barcelona 3.20 Mwalala has now downplayed the significance of the win over the record league champions and wants his side to remain humble and keep working hard for their future league assignments. He challenged his players to give their best in each and every match.“Beating Gor Mahia does not make us champions and we have to remain grounded and work hard for our coming matches. The league is a marathon and we have to give our best in each and every game. Teams like Mumias Sugar and Nzoia Sugar used to win titles in the past but in recent years it has been a Nairobi affair and Mwalala wants to break the jinx by leading Homeboyz to a league title this season“We have a purpose and a goal this season which is to ensure that we bring the league title back to Western Kenya. So far I can that we are on the right path but we have to keep working hard and improving with each passing game,” he added.Mwalala’s charges will again be in action on Thursday against Tusker FC at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. The match had to be rescheduled due to Tusker’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
