Mosimane locks horns with former Belgium head coach Wilmots in CAF Super Cup encounter

Egyptian giants Al Ahly, led by Pitso Mosimane, will face Moroccan counterparts Raja Casablanca, who are coached by former Belgium national team head coach Marc Wilmots, on Wednesday 22 December 2021 at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha, Qatar to determine the winner of the 30th edition of the CAF Super Cup.Similar to the UEFA Super Cup, the African Super Cup is a one-off tie that involves the winners of the continent’s highest club competitions – the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.Currently, Al Ahly are the Super Cup title holders having beaten Morocco’s RS Berkane 2-0 in Doha less than eight months ago when they lifted their seventh Super Cup trophy. For this edition, the Egyptian outfit qualified for the clash after winning the 2020-21 CAF Champions League title for a record tenth time last July following victory over South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.🇪🇬 @AlAhly 🆚 @RCAofficiel 🇲🇦🏟️ Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium🕖 17:00 GMT#TotalEnergiesCAFSC pic.twitter.com/QKx1PcVgFP— TotalEnergies CAFSC 🏆 (@CAFCLCC) December 22, 2021 Nine Al Ahly players were away in the FIFA Arab World Cup and they just rejoined the club heading into the match. Mosimane however says there is no room for excuses. “I had nine key players away in the FIFA Arab Cup and they just joined the team. That’s why we did not prepare in the most suitable way, but there are no excuses. My players can deal with this situation. Nobody cares about the preparations, our supporters only want us to play and win whatever the circumstances are. We are a good team, and my players should be confident of that,” he said. The legend @TheRealPitso 3-time African Champion 🏆🏆🏆 2016✅2020✅2021✅📸Al Ahly#CAFCLFinal #CAFCL pic.twitter.com/JDg7q6hpzo— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) July 17, 2021 On the other hand, having been appointed head coach just over a month ago in November, Wilmots will be hoping to lift his first title with Raja who play the 2021 CAF Super Cup after winning the 2020-21 CAF Confederation Cup for the second time last July.“I took the job just six weeks ago. I hoped for a better preparation, but we should deal with the situation. We are facing a very good team in a decisive game. But we have a great chance to win the title. We had tough games in the domestic league, but now we are here, and we have to win,” the former Belgium head coach stated.MATCHDAY! 🏟Raja Club Athletic take on reigning Champions League winners Al Ahly in the CAF Supercup.
