All conquering Homeboyz make loud title claim with statement win over flat Tusker

Kakamega Homeboyz moved to the top of the league after beating Tusker FC 1-0 in an FKF Premier League match staged at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Thursday afternoon. The match was initially scheduled for October but had to be penciled for late December due to Tusker’s involvement in the CAF Champions League and later CAF Confederation Cup. They have since exited both competitions and have fully shifted focus to the local scene.Heading to the game, Homeboyz wee rein a rich vein of form and were joint top in the log with KCB. Tusker on the other hand were still trying to find their footing after a difficult start to their title defence where they had lost three of the seven league games that they featured in.Four minutes into the game, Homeboyz got the opener through George Odiwuor who got his third of the season. Estone Esiye delivered a freekick into the area, just as it looked like the ball had rolled out, Sunday Mutuku retrieved it and crossed it into the area for the defender to poke home. Tusker nearly leveled the scores in the 19th minute but a Brian Eshihanda goal-line clearance denied Deogratious Ojok what looked like an imminent goal. Next was Daniel Sakari who failed to bury a Shami Kibwana delivery at the half-hour mark.Half Time:Homeboyz 1-0 Tusker George Odiwour ‘4 pic.twitter.com/xld20Jy9E5— Kakamega Homeboyz FC (@FcHomeboyz) December 23, 2021 Just before the interval, Tusker were fortune not the fall further behind through David Odhiambo who was denied by a Charles Momanyi goal-line clearance before Patrick Matasi pulled a fantastic save to deny the Homeboyz number 9.At the hour mark, Coach Robert Matano went for three changes, Humphrey Mieno, Lawrence Luvanda, and Ibrahim Joshua were introduced for Sakari, Wellington Ochieng, and Ojok in what looked like an all-attack move from Matano. Stewart Omondi would later replace Kevin Monyi but despite there being more attacking punch from the Brewers, they could not salvage anything out of the game as Homeboyz defended their advantage to go top in the log.Next for Homeboyz is a match against an inconsistent AFC Leopards in Nairobi.
