KCB’s Onyango believes last season’s heartache can steer the team to success

KCB FC forward Henry ‘Tiore’ Onyango believes that they can use last season’s league heartache to challenge for this season’s FKFK Premier League and believes that they picked invaluable lessons from the campaign that ended in them losing out the title to Tusker FC.The Bankers finished second in the league last season with 62 points, three points behind winners Tusker FC. It was a race that was characterized by slip-ups from both teams at a crucial stage and the winner was eventually decided on the final day, a day Tusker beat Bidco United 2-1 with KCB getting a 3-0 triumph against City Stars. Throwing away a 2-0 lead against Tusker to draw 2-2 in the closing stages of the season is a result that the Bankers were left to rue as a win would have opened a gap between them and the Brewers. For Onyango and his KCB troops, it was a lesson learned albeit the hard way and he believes that they can turn the pain and failure into success in this campaign. They have started the campaign well and after ten games, they are second in the log with 21 points, three behind leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.Nairobi City Stars 0 KCB 1FULL MATCH REPORT [https://t.co/bmeCO2J8TG]#𝕊𝕚𝕞𝕓𝕒𝕎𝕒ℕ𝕒𝕚𝕣𝕠𝕓𝕚 pic.twitter.com/MZcxCA5Ypa— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) December 22, 2021 “We learned from our shortcomings in the preceding season and we are keen to turn our failure into success on our way to a possible KPL title,” he told the Star.Onyango further believes that the Zedekiah Otieno-led technical bench is competent and does squad selection on merit.“The good thing about KCB at the moment is that we have a very effective technical bench. Even more encouraging is the fact that the selection of the matchday squad is done above board and all players are given equal opportunity. It all depends on one’s form,” said Onyango.Onyango has found the back of the net twice so far this season and he wants to add seven more goals to his tally and set up more.“My target is to wrap up the season with at least nine goals and six assists. Last season, I managed to three goals and five assists,” he concluded.KCB take on Nzoia Sugar in their next league assignment.
