Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano believes that injuries are derailing his charges’ run and hopes to have a number of players currently sidelined back for their match against Mathare United scheduled for 30th December at the Ruraka Grounds. The Brewers’ title defence is in total shambles as eight matches into the new season, they have lost four of the games, and are currently 14 points adrift leaders Kakamega Homeboyz. Many point at the overhaul done to the title-winning team at the end of last season to the woes currently facing the 12-time league champions. The team sent packing nearly half of their squad and signed a similar number of players and eight matches into the 2021/22 campaign they are struggling and consistency has become an alien term in the team.🗒️| Tusker suffer disappointing loss on the road to Homeboyz🔗| https://t.co/VapzvWH6B4 pic.twitter.com/exFbHroEr8— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) December 23, 2021 Their latest defeat came on Wednesday against Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu when they fell to a George Odiwuor early strike. Matano has now admitted that the many injuries currently in his squad are derailing the team. The injured players include Jimmy Mbugua, Teddy Osok, and Brian Bwire. Others are said to be down with the viral flu that has hit clubs not only in Kenya but also the East African region.“We are going to prepare well for our next game after a two-day recess but the problem is we have very many injuries and I hope after two days they will have recovered. We will go back to training and fight well in our next match,” he stated.Matano will be hoping to get maximum points against struggling Slum Boys to rekindle their title defence. Mathare have their own issues which are largely financial and this has affected how the team trains and performs in games.
