Sir Alex Ferguson will be remembered for many things during his tenure as Manchester United boss and wine will be one of them. The Scotsman had a tradition to host his colleague managers in his office after the game and share some good wine. Well, some of them didn’t have that privilege, like Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, but since he didn’t drink wine with Ferguson, he didn’t get the driving ban, like an ex-Blackburn boss, or wasn’t criticized for his wine choice like ex Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.Sir Alex hated seeing sky blue in the Man United dressing room – it almost cost van Nistelrooy his Old Trafford careerSteve Kean was the Blackburn boss from 2010 until 2012 and during his reign, Manchester drew 1-1 at Ewood Park, which meant the 12th Premier League title for United, a record back then. Sir Alex wanted to continue with the wine tradition, especially he won the title, and Kean was up to it as well. Unfortunately enough, he had two-and-a-half glasses of wine and as if that wasn’t enough, had another bottle of Budweiser at his local pub later on. When he wanted to return home, he was stopped by local police for speed driving, and they also found out that his level of alcohol was twice as legal. When his case went to trial the claim that his drink had been spiked was rejected by the judge and he got the 18 months driving ban.”I would always encourage the opposition manager to come in for a glass of wine. Even though the rivalries were intense, you have to find that moment where you say, ‘The game’s a game — let’s carry on with our lives” said Ferguson to The Athletic back in 2014.Sir Alex confesses: Henry’s arrival at Arsenal turned my rivalry with Wenger toxicJose Mourinho also became friends with Sir Alex Ferguson and the two often drank wine together. Their relationship became centered around sharing wine and exchanging stories in the offices when Chelsea and United were playing. However, one bottle that Mourinho had gifted was once branded as “paint-stripper”, as Ferguson told the former Chelsea boss to up his wine game. From that moment on, Mourinho made sure that he stepped up his game, and said back in 2005:”After the game we were together in my office and we laughed, we spoke, we drank. When we go to Man United I will take a very good bottle of wine because the wine we drank in my office was very bad and he was complaining”.
