Bold Mathare United midfielder Martin Nderitu has thrown the ball to the club management’s court in the wake of their 4-1 drubbing in the hands of Tusker. The slum boys have been hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons in the past weeks and already find themselves in last season’s conundrum thanks to the poor show on the pitch. The 2008 league champions who spent the better part of the last term fighting to keep their top flight status survived thanks to the superb performance they had in the final five rounds of the season. Western Stima, Vihiga United and Zoo FC met the wrath of the axe although the latter were dropped earlier by FIFA after being found guilty of match manipulation.FT: Tusker FC 4-1 Mathare United I.Joshua (3), E.Asike / C.Alwanga #TuskerVsMathare pic.twitter.com/t6JzPP3OnF— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) December 30, 2021 Mathare have gone for seven matches without a win, a run that has seen them drop to the red zone with seven points against their name. When probed on what could be ailing the team, Nderitu who joined the club before the season began after parting ways with KCB said the management was better placed to explain why the team was struggling.Reports from the club indicate that the players have been constantly downing their tools in protest of lack of payments leaving coach Ezekiel Akwana with an uphill task of smarting for wins with a poorly prepared team.FT: Wazito FC 4-1 Mathare United M.Masika (2), V.Oburu, E.Asieche / K.Ochieng #WazitoVsMathare pic.twitter.com/e4j51n6vPP— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) December 19, 2021 “Honestly the players are doing their best but lack motivation. We try our level best to even salvage a point on match days but lapses in concentration occasioned by off the pitch issues creep in and end up losing. I call upon the management to check on our welfare going into the new year,” he said. The midfielder in the meantime tipped the club to step up in the new year and fight for their survival as well as a respectable finish. The Dennis Oliech Cup winning captain with FIFA Best said the team had potential and the quality to win matches in a convincing way.
