Kisumu All Starlets Head coach Said Juma says the side has not had the best of preparation ahead of the Women Premier League (WPL) clash against league debutants Kangemi Ladies. However, he remains confident the few sessions they have held will be enough to propel them to their first victory in the 2021/22 league that enters its third round on Tuesday 4 January. Kangemi eyeing first WPL win away to KisumuIn their season-opening match against Gaspo Women, Juma’s charges went down 6-0 on their own turf, a scoreline the tactician had termed as not worrying at the time. The side travelled to Nairobi on 28 December 2021 to face Zetech Sparks, a match that ended 5-2 in favour of the hosts. “Our losing margins are not encouraging. Our preparations in the last two matches were better than what I have experienced after the Zetech match. Being a festive period, I have not had the entire squad in training. However, I have had at least ten players consistently available for training and to compensate for the absence of the others, we did take our training a notch higher so they are able to pull their teammates who haven’t had as much training time,” said Juma. This will be a first meeting between Kisumu and the Ligi Ndogo-based Kangemi Ladies who gained promotion to the top tier league this season. This, after winning the women’s division one Zone A leagues.”It is unfamiliar territory for us. We have not seen Kangemi in action and there is not much about them out there. They have also made alot of changes to their squad so we cannot tell what to expect. However, we will be ready and I am confident of picking our first points,” he added. The tactician will be without the services of skipper Catherine Nabiswa who suffered a neck injury during the Zetech match.”Her guidance will be missed. We travelled back to Kisumu with her after her brief hospitalisation in Nairobi and she is recovering well. Luckily, the injury was not as threatening as had initially been thought. She will, however, not feature as we give her time to fully recover before getting back to the pitch,” Juma offered.
