Aussems assures Ingwe faithfuls of ending trophy drought

AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems has confidently revealed that his team will do whatever it takes for them to lift the 2022 Football Kenya Federation Cup as he plots of helping the twelve time Kenyan league champions end their near five year trophy drought.Last season, the Belgian tactician almost put paid the club’s barren run as he led them to the finals of the cup tournament but Ingwe were outdone by fierce rivals Gor Mahia who defeated them 4-1 on post-match penalties following a scoreless draw in regulation time. This season however, despite looking far from a side that is at their best in the league campaign, as they sit in 14th place on the log table having managed only 10 points from eleven games, the former Simba boss has reiterated that they will put all their fight in the cup competition as they attempt to bring back success to the club whose last trophy came way back in 2017 when they defeated Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 to lift the cup title that was referred to as the Gotv Shield. We will try our best to move up the table every time and if we can reach the top six or top eight at the end of the season it will be a good thing. But to be honest with you, I am here to win titles and regarding the situation, I am a little disappointed that we find ourselves here,” he said, He added; “If there is a trophy we will be fighting for this season, then it will be the cup. So we will of course play 100% for the cup and try to win the title,” the head coach remarked. This season though, dates for the FKF Cup have not yet been announced since the takeover by the government appointed Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee. It is also unclear if the cup will be played or not.
