After the National Super League (NSL) referees issued a threat to down their tools this weekend over non-payment, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee has come the their rescue, promising to release their funds before the end of the week. The NSL referees revealed that they had not received payment since the Caretaker Committee took over football governance in the country after the disbandment of FKF despite their Premier League counterparts having their salaries up to date.Speaking at a press conference held at the Nyayo National Stadium on Wednesday, the Caretaker Committee releaved that the NSL referees will receive their funds by early next week.”We have released the funds for the refereees and we are currently working on funds for the NSL referees. They have not been forgotten, by Friday or Thursday we will have released the money and by Monday or Tuesday they will have received their money. We are paying and honoring our commitment, we have heard complaints about the Ksh300,000 being small and we understand that but there is the compliance issue and there the aspect of clubs being sustainable and we will continue to review,” said the Committee. This comes after one of the referees raised a complaint on their payment crying foul over the harsh economic times as they have been forced to cater for their facilitation to games. The Committee also weighed in on the current complaints on the level of officiating in the Kenyan leagues, promising to fix the issue with a performance analysis set to be conducted.”We are doing analysis for the referees for the first time, there is a package one team is being officiated by the referee for four, five games or the same package you find that the centre referee will be the lines man but he is the same one so we are doing an analysis on that,We will make sure that each and every referee is clean and we will release a report on referees,” noted the committee.
