Financial Fair Play. Remember that rule? It was established to prevent professional football clubs from spending more than they earn in the pursuit of success, and it usually applies to everybody, unless you are PSG, or Barcelona in recent months. Anyway, the rule is in place in England too, and since the January transfer window is open, it’s good to see which clubs can spend some money, and how much. Sportsmail interviewed football finance lecturer Kieran Maguire, who estimated what each club could spend while remaining within their FFP limit. View this post on Instagram A post shared by FourFourTwo (@fourfourtwouk) Daniel Levy is still one of the top executives in the country, which can be seen now since Tottenham can spend (if they want) up to 61 billion Ksh in January. Of course, being such a good finance manager, Levy will probably spend only as much as needed and save money for June, as this sum is simply an estimate of their net profits over the past 10 years, based on income, outcome, and how Daniel Levy has controlled the club.”Spurs net transfer spend since 2010 is between a quarter and a half of the other Big Six clubs and it is the most successful club in terms of keeping its wages low as a proportion of income the club generates” Maguire told Sportsmail.Double moves in one transfer window: do you remember those players?Behind rich Spurs are other clubs in the Big Six such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool (all over 30 billion), while Newcastle United with 25 billion has more money to spend than Manchester City (13 billion).”As it stands the FFP position at Newcastle would have been the same without the takeover, however, the club now has an owner that will be prepared to exploit the potential since they have the resources and probably the inclination to do so” Maguire added. (2.10) CHELSEA (3.45) TOTTENHAM (3.50)It is expected that only Newcastle will actually spend some money this January since they are in a relegation battle and need to invest. Apart from the upcoming Kieran Trippier (around 2 billion Ksh), Newcastle are looking for at least three more players, so we will see how much out of that 25 billion they will actually spend when the window shuts down. And the funny thing is, the worst positioned club on this list has already spent its money first: Everton signed Nathan Patterson even though they are in a 5 billion minus, while Aston Villa is only 766 million in plus.
