Abraham gives, Abraham takes away: There was no joy for Roma at San Siro

Milan overcame 9-men Roma at San Siro to keep up the chase just behind Inter in the Serie A table as Jose Mourinho suffered a depressing return to this legendary stadium.Tammy Abraham is arguably the best signing Roma’s made since the Mourinho’s arrival. His goals saved I Giallorossi more than once this season, but the Englishman’s poor attempt of being a defender resulted in a penalty kick early on – one that made Roma fall behind against Serie A’s second-placed team.⚽ 7 goals🅰️ 3 assistsTenth Serie A goal involvement of the season for Tammy Abraham ✨ pic.twitter.com/aR5Hwjivsg— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) January 6, 2022 Former Arsenal and Chelsea man Olivier Giroud slammed the penalty in and Junior Messias scored a pretty second just ten minutes later to put Milan firmly on road to another win.The venue of San Siro was Mourinho’s home during his tenure as Inter boss, but this return to the city of Milan was a frustrating one. Abraham made amends for the penalty by scoring a deflected goal just before the break but that was the closest the visitors would come.Brahim Diaz cracked a shot off the crossbar just after the break but Roma just stayed in the game against Stefano Pioli’s side. Former Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s done well to keep another Abraham’s shot out, but it was the incident 15 minutes before the end that pretty much settled the game. Roma’s right-back Rick Karsdorp was sent off of his second bookable offence of the night and substitute Rafael Leao made sure to kill any lingering hopes of an unlikely comeback. The Portuguese forward picked up a pass from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, bore down on goal and slammed the ball high into Rui Patricio’s net to make it 3-1.Zlatan himself had a chance to score from the spot in added time when Gianluca Mancini got sent off for a bad foul in the box. The veteran Swede’s shot was poor and Patricio managed to keep it out. But it wasn’t much of a consolation for the capital team who remains just below the places that would guarantee them a place in Europe next season.SERIE A – Round 20ThursdayBologna – Inter POSTPONEDAtalanta – Torino POSTPONEDSalernitana – Venezia POSTPONEDFiorentina – Udinese POSTPONEDSampdoria – Cagliari 1-2 (1-0)/Gabbiadini 18 – Deiola 55, Pavoletti 71/Lazio – Empoli 3-3 (1-2)/Immobile 14, Milinkovic-Savic 66, 90+3 – Bajrami 6 pen, Zurkowski 8, Di Francesco 75/Spezia – Verona 1-2 (0-0)/Erlic 85 – Caprari 59, 70/Sassuolo – Genoa 1-1 (0-1)/Berardi 55 – Destro 7/Milan – Roma 3-1 (2-1)/Giroud 8 pen, Messias 17, Leao 82 – Abraham 40/22.45: (1.70) Juventus (3.80) Napoli (5.70)***odds are subject to change
