Homeboyz bounce back to winning ways with slim win over Kariobangi Sharks

Kakamega Homeboyz returned to winning ways after seeing off Kariobangi Sharks by a solitary goal courtesy of David Okoth to reclaim the top spot on the log.Sharks came to this game on the back of a 1-0 win while Homeboyz were fresh from suffering their first league defeat in the hands of Talanta.The first real chance in the first half fell to Geulord Mwamba but the former Bandari FC man was denied by the crossbar with the goalkeeper John Otieno well beaten at the half hour markSharks had their chances through Patrick Otieno na club’s top scorer in the current campaign Felix Oluoch but they could not beat Godfrey Oputi on goal.Reagan Odede and Isaac Wasambo pulled the strings in midfield for Sharks, but the team clearly missed on the experience of Patilah Omotto in the middle of the park.On resumption, William Muluya made two changes as Brandon Obiero and Henry Juma came on for the injured John Otieno and Reagan Odede.Patrick Otieno almost grabbed the lead for the hosts just a minute after restart when his cross was deflected towards goal by Eric Ambunya but Oputi tipped it off to keep the scores level.Mwamba was the first player to get booked following a dangerous play on Patrick Otieno, a decision he greatly protested.A series of attacks by Kakamega Homeboyz finally paid off when David Okoth gave the visitors the lead from the spot 11 minutes into the second half.Stephen Etyang was brought down in the area by Fredrick Alushula, prompting the referee to point to the spot. Okoth stepped up to take the resultant penalty and made no mistake, burying it in the net despite Obiero having a touch.Chasing the game, Muluya made two more changes to his side as Steve Otieno and Issa Lumumba came on for Isaac Wasambo and Geoffrey Onyango, attacking minded changes.Benard Mwalala was in no hurry to tweak his side, making the first change with only 13 minutes left to play as Michael Karamor came on for Stephen Opoku as Fortune Omoto made way for Ken Kyalo for the final Sharks sub.Sharks could have leveled with seven minutes left in regular time following a miscommunication between the goalkeeper and his backline that saw Oputi come off his area but the defenders tracked back to make amends.Running down the time left, Mwalala brought in the conservative Christopher Masinza and rested the attack Mwamba.
