Akumu’s Kaizer Chiefs charged for failing to honour league matches

Kaizer Chiefs, home to Kenyan international Anthony Akumu, have officially been charged for failing to honour two of their Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixtures with the Soweto giants facing a stern punishment and possible points deduction.Back in December 2021, the Amakhosi had requested the postponement of their fixtures for that month after an outbreak of the novel coronavirus swept through the team and left upto 36 players and personnel testing positive for the Covid-19 infection.Despite making their request to the league governing body to call off their games based on the medical evidence which they wanted to be treated as a force majeure, their wishes failed to be granted by the PSL.Akumu’s Covid-19 stricken Chiefs denied request to postpone gamesStill, Chiefs failed to play two of the scheduled five games as they communicated that they would be unable to honour their two fixtures at home to Cape Town before missing another away clash to Golden Arrows.Following their choices, the PSL have now charged the South African giants for their no show with the hearing set to take place on 21 January 2022.“I can confirm that Kaizer Chiefs football club has been charged in relation to their non-fulfilment of the two fixtures as a result of the allegations that most of their players had tested positive,” PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu is quoted on the Kickoff.The PSL has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs have been charged for failing to honour two DStv Premiership fixtures, with the Soweto giants facing a stern punishment.Read more here ➡️ https://t.co/tamQqWEMGD pic.twitter.com/n90GWHwtfV— Kick Off (@KickOffMagazine) January 12, 2022 “That case has also been enrolled for hearing on the 21st of January at 16:00. As soon as these matters have been finalised, I will once again communicate the outcomes thereof. Alternatively, if there are any developments in relation to these matters I will similarly communicate those,” the prosecutor added.Chiefs, who are currently in fourth place on the log on 28 points have not made any communication since the decision to charge the team.
