As Ulinzi Starlets demolished Women Premier League (WPL) debutants Bunyore Starlets 6-0 in a fourth-round match played at the Ruaraka Grounds, youngster Providence Mukalo’s contribution was to the huge win was undeniable. Mukalo gave a woman-of-the-match performance as the soldiers scored six past the Vihiga-based side who had no reply for the Joseph Mwanza-coached side’s onslaught “The support I am getting from my teammates is immeasurable and I can feel my game changing for the better and improving with each training session and match. I got to score my first goal in the league on the weekend and the support I got in opening my account in the 2021/22 season was amazing. I love the teamwork here and I am looking forward to more playing time and even better goals.” said an elated MukaloUlinzi missing key players as league action heats upThe 20 year old was signed at the beginning of the season from reigning National Secondary School Sports Association football champions Nyakach Girls High School , making her debut for the team as Ulinzi beat Thika Queens on post-match penalties in the inaugural Super Cup at the start of the season. She came in as a second half substitute in the match. “Playing in the premier league calls for me to be a different kind of player from what the school games had to offer. I have to be willing to learn and accept new ways of doing things. The competition within the team also means I have to work harder and smarter if I am to maintain my place in the starting team. Discipline is also key whether in training or in matches,” she offered. Ulinzi thrash Bunyore for second league winThis, however, is not her first time playing in the top tier league as she featured for a season for Trans Nzoia Falcons back in 2017 while in form one. “The league was unified back then but I did not get as much play time since I was in school. I was also not technically as good as the players who featured weekly so my experience at Ulinzi feels like a first. I have a bigger responsibility and I am loving the journey,” added Mukalo. The military side is missing some key players in Lucy Mukhwana, Lucy Nato Joan Naitutu and keepers Mejuma Kombo and Maureen Shimuli. Mwanza has been forced to rely heavily on his new signings as they look to bag their maiden league title. Up next for Ulinzi Starlets is a trip away to Nakuru Queens on Saturday afternoon at the Nakuru ASK Grounds.
