Arunga confident of Bunyore’s comeback as Ulinzi look to pick maximum points

Women Premier League (WPL) debutants Bunyore Starlets are hoping to bounce back from their 6-0 thrashing in the hands of Ulinzi Starlets when they host Trans Nzoia Falcons at Mumboha grounds in Luanda. Coach Daniel Arunga blamed the heavy loss in their season-opening match and against Ulinzi last weekend on poor goalkeeping as they missed their first-choice goalkeeper Ivy Makokha in both ties. The tactician is still scratching his head on who to start in the goalkeeping department as Makokha, who has been sidelined due to illness is yet to recover thus unavailable. The weekend has several mouthwatering clashes on the cards. This is our first meeting with Falcons but, having done our research, they are a good side with experienced players and we will need to be at our best. We have addressed the issues that led to us conceding six goals in our last outing in training this week and I believe the girls are ready for the task ahead,” offered Arunga. In another encounter, Ulinzi travel to Nakuru where they face hosts fir the first time since the side denied them a chance to get to the top four in the league playoffs last season. The Joseph Mwanza-coached military side is coming off a massive win against Bunyore and are looking to build on that moment for what would be their third win in five matches. “We had gone two matches without winning before the Bunyore match. The result in that fixture was a morale booster and I am confident the team will handle business in Nakuru for maximum points,” said skipper Diana Shakava. Other matches will see second-placed Gaspo Women host winless Kangemi Ladies at ABSA Sports Club in Nairobi. Coming off a hard-fought victory against Zetech Sparks, the Domitila Wangui-coached side are looking to bag their fourth win in five rounds. PERFECT RUN !@Vihigaqueens are the only unbeaten team after four rounds of the #FKFWPL pic.twitter.com/UdPMNRWeVz— FKF Caretaker – Women (@fkfcc_women) January 9, 2022 It will be a tall order for the Turncliff Asiebella-led Kangemi to pick any points from the in-form Gaspo who have only lost to champions Thika in the Kiambu derby hosted by the holders. Meanwhile, the defending champions host bruised Sparks at Thika Stadium, the latter looking to slavage their losing streak as they have lost to Kayole Starlets and Gaspo in their last two games. Saturday fixtures Bunyore Starlets vs Trans Nzoia Falcons Gaspo Women vs Kangemi Starlets Nakuru Queens vs Ulinzi Starlets Thika Queens vs Zetech Sparks
